Are we doing this?!

So it’s official. I registered for the Philly Half in November.

Here’s the story…

Thursday I went into for my Remicade infusion. It completely wiped me out afterwards. Granted, I ate some amazing gluten covered chicken wings the night before (see pic below) but I’d like to think the Remicade is working which is why it made me so doggone tired.

I haven’t run since…. I forget. But I’ve been itching to run. By Friday, I was feeling pretty good… So I decided to register for my first half marathon in 6 years. Like, no big deal. Just $95 bucks. Plenty of time to train. All my friends are doing it. Then it sunk in. I’m so very scared.

So what did I do? I didn’t run this weekend either!

But… I felt amazing this weekend.
Yesterday, hubs and I went to the firefly festival and I stood for hours! And danced in the rain! And only peed once and didn’t have any pain or cramping or anything. I felt normal!

So I will kick off my training today. Let’s do this!

Redemption Race

Philly Half Marathon

So cat’s out of the bag.  I ended up telling my husband that I wanted to run another half marathon.  This was supposed to be a secret until I knew for sure I wanted to do this.  However, we’re both big Phish fans and a fall tour is rumored to come to Philadelphia and the area.  One of the shows falls on the weekend I was thinking of going to Vegas for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon.  So I told him I was still undecided but wanted to run a half eventually, and that we could make a decision once the Phish shows are announced.

This morning I asked him if he thought I was crazy for thinking about running a half again. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, No, I think you can do whatever you put your mind to.  Then he reminded me that I’d need to run 13 miles before the race.  Duh, I know the training plan.  I also ‘fessed up to a friend who is also a runner.  He first said I was insane; meaning that I tend to push myself too hard (He thought I was insane for running immediately after my infusion. Yes, maybe that wasn’t smart, but it was a great run!).  Then he followed up with: I have tremendous amount of faith in you.  Thanks pal!

After the discussion, I decided to forego the half in Vegas and do a half in Philadelphia that same weekend. The Vegas race was the same weekend as the Philadelphia Marathon. I’m sure I will have friends running the half or full, so for my first half, I’m going to keep it local.  I will probably need all the cheer support I can get for that race, and also I can stick around and cheer on the marathoners too.  I’m sad I won’t be running with Team Challenge this year, but husband made a great point: Get a local half race under your belt then in 2014 you can pick any race you want with Team Challenge, at a really fun location or destination we’ve never been to.  Good point, sir.

So on November 17th, you might see me on the course… I’m going to buy my spot once I complete the 5K run in June.
